What Are AEO and SEO?

Two terms you will hear from anyone selling search work. Here is what each one means in plain words, for an Arkansas business owner, and why we start with AEO.

AEO: Answer Engine Optimization

Getting named in AI answers

An answer engine writes an answer to your question, usually with a few links to its sources, instead of only a list of results. ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, and Microsoft Copilot work this way, and Google now shows AI Overviews at the top of many ordinary searches.

Ask one for a good plumber in Conway and it will often name a few businesses. AEO is the work of making sure the facts about your business are right, complete, and easy to find in the places each assistant looks, so it has good reason to name you.

WHAT PEOPLE ASK

A full question

  • Who is a good plumber in Conway?
  • Which body shop in Jonesboro works with my insurance?
  • Is there a laundromat in Little Rock open late?

SEO: Search Engine Optimization

Getting found on Google

A search engine lists results. Someone types a few words into Google, and it shows a map with a few businesses and a page of links to scan.

SEO is the work that moves your business up that map and that list: a site Google can read, a complete Google profile, listings that match, steady reviews, and a page for each service and town.

WHAT PEOPLE TYPE

A few words

  • plumber conway ar
  • body shop jonesboro
  • laundromat near me

The Difference, Side by Side

Same goal, a customer calling you. Two different ways of getting there.

Where it happens

SEO

Google search and Google Maps.

AEO

ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Copilot, Siri, and the AI Overviews on Google.

What the customer does

SEO

Types a few words and scans a list.

AEO

Asks a full question and reads an answer, often with a few businesses named.

What you are after

SEO

A spot on the map and the first page of results.

AEO

Your business named in the answer.

Where the facts come from

SEO

Your site, your Google Business Profile, your reviews, and your listings.

AEO

The same basics, plus the sources each assistant uses: Google Maps for Gemini, business listings including Yelp for ChatGPT, Apple Business for Siri.

Why We Start With AEO

Your customers are already asking

About half of U.S. adults now use AI chatbots. In BrightLocal’s 2026 survey, 45% of consumers said they had used AI tools for local business recommendations, up from 6% the year before. Getting your Arkansas business ready now means meeting customers where they are heading.

And it builds on SEO instead of replacing it. Google says showing up in its AI answers takes the same basics as regular search, which it still calls SEO. The work for one helps the other.

BY THE NUMBERS

The shift is here

  • About half of U.S. adults use AI chatbots
  • Six in ten read AI summaries on search results
  • 45% have used AI for local recommendations

What We Won’t Sell You

No tricks, no guarantees

Google says no special AI files, markup, or tricks are needed to appear in its AI answers, and that no outside tool can see inside its ranking or AI systems. So we will not charge you for one.

No one can guarantee a #1 ranking or a mention in ChatGPT either. Google says so itself, and AI answers change from one ask to the next. What we promise is the work, every month, and a report that shows it.
